I’m here to make a case for pencil skirts. Really there isn’t much of a case to be made because they have sort of always been in style.
The main issue is that they have primarily been targeted towards an office lady, and they have SO much more potential than that. I think the key difference between office lady, and more than an office lady, is what you pair it with. I consider the pencil skirt to fall into the category of business casual, and if someone were to ask me where to find one, I would send him/her to the job-interview-outfit-capital of America, Banana Republic. There’s no question that if I threw a blouse over this tank, and tucked it in, I’d be ready for work, however, I just think it works better (or at least equivalently) outside the office. Ya dig?
About the look:
I paired this white neoprene (not just for swimsuits) pencil skirt with a simple black tank top and heels- this is for summer, but I’ve swapped the tank for a long sleeve and I was ready for Passover dinner.
To really amp up the outfit, throw a leather jacket over it and call it a day. Now you tell me- do I look like an office lady, or what?
